We continue our series called “Parting Thoughts.” This series marks the end of my time with the Greenup and Cottonwood United Methodist Churches. Each week I will share another parting thought before I start my new appointment. This week we have “Thoughts on Communion” with a few thoughts about sharing in the Lord’s Supper.
Our scripture readings come from Ecclesiastes 9:7-11; 1 Corinthians 11:17-26; and Luke 22:7-20.
We continue our current series called “The Spirit Moves.” In it, we will be looking at the Holy Spirit . Our second message is “Moved as One.” Today we look at Trinity Sunday and the way that we are moved as one by the Spirit.
Our scripture readings come from Matthew 28:16-20 and Ephesians 4:1-6, 25-32.
We finish our after Easter series called “Easter People.” In it, we will be exploring how the resurrection changes us. Our last message is “Yours, Mine, and Ours.” Today we look at how we are united in Christ with purpose and responsibility.
Our scripture readings come from 1 Peter 4:12-14; 5:6-11 and John 17:1-11.
Pentecost marks the end of our Easter series, Discover Hope. Our final message is “A Greater Understanding” and it contrasts two biblical accounts of speech being changed. How do the Tower of Babel story and the Pentecost narrative work together? Do we build our own towers? Are we being disciples or are we making them? Join us as we rediscover hope this Easter season!
What follows is the transcript from today’s sermon. It is also my statement about moving forward after the vote at the 2019 General Conference. I thank you for reading, understanding, sharing, and most of all, I thank you for love. May the Lord bless us all, and help us to move forward. The audio and a downloadable version are here.
The last message in Being Transformed is “Transformed to Boldness” and looks at the way we are transformed to boldly proclaim the message of Christ. This is a deeply personal message today. How do we lift the veil to see the divine? Is our boldness in proclaiming Christ in proclaiming a message of good news for the least and the last? Is our boldness in breaking the yoke of oppression? Is our boldness that in God we can proclaim all these things and still have more to say? Let us make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world!
We begin our new series, Facing Doubts, with “Do I Belong?” Weall have fears and doubts. What happens when we doubt that we belong? What is our role in the church to welcome others? Who does Christ welcome in? Do we follow his example? Let love cast out fear as we face our doubts.
